Seven students from CCU were inducted into the South Carolina Theta chapter of the Alpha Kappa Delta sociology honor society this past semester. The Alpha Kappa Delta sociology honor society was founded at CCU in 1992 and seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in the scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.

Newest Air Force officers accept commissions at The Citadel
Nearly three dozen of the Air Force's newest officers will come from the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. 34 members of the Class of 2019 took their commissioning oaths on Friday, May 3 in Summerall Chapel. Every year, the commencement ceremony for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets is held the day after the commissioning ceremonies. Approximately 35% of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets Class of 2019 are now officers in all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

CCU Honors Class of 2019 is the largest yet
The Coastal Carolina University Honors Class of 2019 is the largest in history, with 83 graduates earning a total of 89 degrees. Each student has completed a rigorous curriculum consisting of at least 24 credit hours of honors courses while maintaining at least a cumulative GPA of 3.5. The average GPA of this spring's graduating class is 3.72. Each honors student also completes a final honors thesis or project which is presented in a public forum.

More than 1,200 graduate as part of CCU's Class of 2019
Coastal Carolina University graduates are exactly what the world needs, according to commencement speaker and doctoral candidate Leigha Peterson. Peterson addressed the graduating class of 2019 - more than 1,200 students - during three separate commencement ceremonies at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center May 10-11. "Whatever you are, put it out there," she said, "because it is better than good enough. It is exactly what the world needs!"

South Carolina Corps of Cadets commencement 2019
More than 500 members of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets accepted diplomas during The Citadel's commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 4 in McAlister Field House. About 35% of the class accepted commmissions as U.S. military officers in all branches of service just prior to graduation. Graduates accepted their diploma from Citadel alumnus Gen. Glenn W. Walters, USMC (Ret.), who was officiating as president for the first time. The top academic programs for the Class of 2019 included business administration, criminal justice, mechanical engineering, civil engineering and political science.

Coastal Carolina University held its annual Student Involvement Leadership Awards ceremony on April 29, 2019. The event recognizes students and student organizations who have excelled at leadership and service throughout the academic year. Eight students were awarded and seven organizations were recognized.

CCU students bring Pulitzer Prize-winning 'Our Town' to the stage
Twenty-two Coastal Carolina University students will bring to life Thornton Wilder's timeless, Pulitzer Prize-winning play, "Our Town," on Wednesday, Nov. 7, through Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Edwards Theatre at CCU. The landmark American drama tells the story of a small community that represents every town the world over. Wilder delivers universal truths on what it means to be human.

Forty-five Coastal Carolina University students were accepted into Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) theatre program at Coastal this fall. The four-year course of study is highly competitive and recruits high school students from across the country.

Newly established Honors College at CCU has more than 700 students
The HTC Honors College and Center for Interdisciplinary Studies was established at Coastal Carolina University on Oct. 12, and the 700 students who had been accepted into the University's honors program are now the first students housed in the new college. The HTC Honors College and Center for Interdisciplinary Studies will feature many new initiatives and a revised curriculum. It will support students who have ties to majors and departments across campus: from honors students to interdisciplinary studies students, who build their own, innovative academic majors. In addition, the college will continue to support and advise undeclared first-year students as they select and transition into their major.
